Something Rotten!
Broadway meets the Bard
Event Description
Something Rotten! is “Broadway’s big, fat hit!” (New York Post). Set in 1595, this hilarious smash tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who are desperate to write a hit play. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first MUSICAL!
This hilarious new musical comedy follows Nick and Nigel Bottom as they try to compete with the popular and publicly adored William Shakespeare (aka “The Bard”). After Nick makes known his loathing hatred for Shakespeare, AKA "The Bard", he goes to see soothsayer Thomas Nostradamus, the nephew of the famous Nostradamus.
After finding out the future of theatre is musicals, Nick sets out to create the first ever musical with the help of his brother Nigel. However, after falling in love with a Puritan’s daughter, Nigel wants to continue writing plays. This story shows the hilarious struggles of Nick, Nigel, and Shakespeare as events unfold and twists and turns unravel.
With the most singing, the most dancing, and the most gut-busting laughs on Broadway, Something Rotten! leaves audiences smiling from start to finish. Something Rotten! is an uproarious dose of pure Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals—those dazzling creations that entertain us, inspire us, and remind us that everything’s better with an exclamation point!
With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, Something Rotten! is “The Producers + Spamalot + The Book of Mormon. Squared!” (New York Magazine).
