Come From Away Pre-Show Talk
Wednesday, November 1 • 6:30–7:15 p.m.
Fine Arts Building Room 102
Arrive early to a special pre-show talk titled, "9/11 and the Dividing of America."
The terrorists' attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, ignited a period of national unity. Americans rallied to the flag and moved quickly to launch a War on Terror designed to punish the perpetrators and demonstrate that the nation remained strong. This surge of patriotic fervor, however, was to be short lived. Within a few years, citizens began to criticize the wars launched in Afghanistan and Iraq. This talk will look closely at the course of this change from unity to fragmentation.
John Bodnar is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University. His books include The Good War in American Memory (2010) and Divided by Terror: American Patriotism after 9/11 (2021).
This is a FREE event and open to the public.
