Event Description
Declared “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by The Washington Post, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the first musical to take a groundbreaking look—from the point of view of both the parents and young people—at our complex, interconnected, and social media-filled lives.
Evan Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. Evan finally gets what so many of us are searching for—the chance to finally fit in. What follows is a poignant, funny, and powerful musical about how, even though it can be hard, we can find each other—and ourselves—along the way.
Including some of the most iconic musical theatre songs from the last decade, “You Will Be Found,” “Waving Through A Window,” and “For Forever,” DEAR EVAN HANSEN features an uplifting score by the Tony-, Grammy-, and Oscar-winning team behind The Greatest Showman and La La Land, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson.

April 1 and 2, 6:30–7:15 p.m.
Woodburn Hall Room 121
Counselors from Centerstone will lead a conversation surrounding the mental health themes found in Dear Evan Hansen. They will discuss how for current high schoolers, there is importance in connection, finding your place, and the impact of social media as a tool for connection but also a source for potential harm, misinformation, and comparison.
This is a free public event and will take place prior to both performances.
Dear Evan Hansen: A Letter to My Future Self
April 1 and 2, 6:30–7:30 p.m.
IU Auditorium Lobby
Aligned with the themes of the production, we partnered with the Eskenazi Museum of Art to host a letter-writing activity, inviting IU students to reflect on their present selves and envision their future. Through creative exploration and therapeutic guidance, they crafted personal letters to their future selves, fostering growth and self-compassion.
This free event for ticket holders will take place in IU Auditorium's main lobby area prior to the show starting.
