Presented by IU's African American Arts Institute
Event Description
Indiana University's African American Arts Institute presents its annual Potpourri, a music and dance showcase representing the African American experience, featuring its three unique ensembles.
Witness the legendary African American Dance Company, directed by Baba Stafford C. Berry, Jr., as it shares an eclectic array of performance works from the African diaspora ranging from traditional African dance to contemporary styles. Celebrate the legacy of Black choral music, from spirituals to gospel to formally composed works, with the award-winning African American Choral Ensemble directed by Dr. Raymond Wise. Groove with the one and only IU Soul Revue as it renders timeless R&B, soul, funk, and contemporary Black popular styles, directed by James Strong.
This year's theme is "The Road to 50" as the program will include memories of the past decades and glimpses into the future as the African American Arts Institute prepares for next year's 50th anniversary celebrations. Get your tickets now for this amazing show!
This year’s Potpourri is presented in conjunction with the Association for Black Culture Centers conference, hosted this year by the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center on the IU Bloomington campus. The African American Arts Institute is a unit of Indiana University’s Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The ensembles are courses offered through the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies.
