All-Time Broadway Classic My Fair Lady Returns to IU Auditorium October 25 and 26
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – One of the most beloved musicals of all time, Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady, will take the IU Auditorium stage for the first time in over 20 years for two performances on October 25 and 26.
From Lincoln Center Theater, that also produced The King & I and South Pacific, comes what Entertainment Weekly called “a sumptuous new production of the most perfect musical of all time.” Directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.” But who is really being transformed?
The classic score features “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” and “On the Street Where You Live.” The original 1956 production won six Tony Awards including Best Musical and was hailed by The New York Times as “one of the best musicals of the century.” That production also featured a young Julie Andrews who played the role of Eliza in the original Broadway run.
“With its return to Bloomington for the first time in over two decades, we are elated to bring back the national touring Broadway production of the beloved musical, My Fair Lady,” said IU Auditorium Managing Director Maria Talbert. “This Tony Award-winning musical is filled with amazing music, dazzling costumes, and a story that will make for an unforgettable evening at the theatre.”
My Fair Lady at IU Auditorium is presented in partnership with Jo Throckmorton Filmworks and Lamar Outdoor Advertising. IU Auditorium’s 2022–2023 season is presented by B97, French Lick Resort, Curry Auto Center, The Herald Times, Upland Brewing Company, and World Arts Inc.
